Florence A. Anderson, 96, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at
the Lynn Care Center, Front Royal VA.
Mrs. Anderson was a resident of Gaylord until moving to her daughter’s
home in Herndon Virginia in 2000.
She was born June 6, 1913 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and was a graduate of
West High School, Green Bay, and of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago IL. She also attended the Univ. of
Wisconsin Madison. Beloved wife of
the late Sgt. Oscar Anderson; Michigan State Police retired, daughter of the
late Ida and Frank Decker of Green Bay WI, sister to the late Ervin
Decker. She is survived by her
son, Eric Anderson, of Southfield MI, daughter, Elaine Horsfield, of Herndon
VA, and grandsons, John Bauer, of Libertyville, IL, James Bauer, of Grosse
Point Woods, MI, and Peter Horsfield of Marina del Rey, CA. Her daughter, Kersten Bauer, and
grandson, Andrew Horsfield, predeceased her. Mrs. Anderson taught art in Wakefield MI before moving to Marquette,
Bad Axe, Flint, and Jackson eventually settling in Gaylord in 1953 where she
taught in the Gaylord Community Schools and St. Mary’s Elementary School. She was a member of St. Andrew’s
Episcopal Church where she served as Treasurer and on the Altar Guild and
volunteered with the Otsego Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the
Chrysanthemum Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Services and internment will be held at St. Andrews
Episcopal Church in the spring 2010.
