Ashley Seaman was born and raised in Sioux
Falls, South Dakota. She spent her youth exploring every artsy and
crafty endeavor she could get her hands on. She loved color books and
never colored outside the lines. She learned to knit and sew before
she was a teenager. She tried nearly everything including bead-work,
fabric painting, candle making, rubber stamp art, illustrations,
poetry, and obscure object collections like napkins and erasers.
Though not very proficient in drawing from memory, she always enjoyed
drawing, especially patterns and animals. During her middle school
years, she began to refine her drawing skills through various media and
material studies and experimented for the first time with oil
painting. Throughout high school, she worked to develop her accuracy
and precision in painting and drawing realistically. After her high school graduation in 2004,
she moved to Chicago, IL to attend the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago for her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts. The concept-driven
school moved the artist to explore her other interests including
geometry, mapping, architecture, and color. Throughout college she
tried several other mediums including photography, performance,
sculpture and fibers. Now, a Spring 2009 graduate from SAIC, she has
focused her practice to exploring structure and color through painting
and drawing using traditional and nontraditional mixed media. The
artist currently works as an assistant to artist Lee Tracy and a
manager at a local Jimmy John's sub shop. She recently launched two
online stores at Etsy.com where a selection of her work is available
for sale. The two shops:
