Alumna Stephanie Preston (BFA 2013) is working on plans to start a new artists studio located in a storefront in Chicago called Vignette. The program aims to allow the public to watch, learn, participate, and give back to Chicago through participatory arts and community engagement. Creating a space where the public can come and watch artists work in a large open space, the artist studio will offer the opportunity to buy work directly, take children’s and adults’ classes, and contribute to the community. Programs focusing on social services include home-cooked meals on Thursdays, young artists residency programs for underrepresented youth groups, facilitation for animal adoption, and crotchet workshops that donate all garments to local shelter organizations.
