Looking Back on an Exciting Year

Dear SAIC Alumni,

2012 was an exciting year for the entire SAIC community thanks in no small part to the engagement of you, our alumni community.

We opened the LeRoy Neiman Center, SAIC’s first official campus center made possible by a generous gift from alumnus LeRoy Neiman and alumna Janet Byrne Neiman.

Architect, designer, and educator Emily Pilloton (MFA 2005) and performance artist Tania Bruguera (MFA 2001) returned to SAIC as Distinguished Alumni lecturers through the Visiting Artists Program. Alumnus and graphic novelist Chris Ware (1991–93) spoke to students through the Printmedia department’s visiting artist program. SAIC alumnus, artist, filmmaker, and performer Wu Tsang visited for a screening of his film Wildness through the Conversations at the Edge series organized by the Department of Film, Video, New Media, and Animation and the Gene Siskel Film Center.

And Sullivan Galleries marked the 15th anniversary of SAIC alumnus Roger Brown’s death with an exhibition exploring sexuality, homosexuality, and HIV, which Brown painted in many guises throughout his 27-year career.

Thank you to everyone who made it out to these events and our recent reception at Art Basel Miami Beach. We hope you will join us in 2013 for another great lineup, including the upcoming Visiting Artists Program Distinguished Alumni Lecture with Jacob Hashimoto.

Best wishes,
